Debate of pop socks!

So i came across this debate from Vogue, whether pop socks are a fashion no-no or geek chic.
I personally think that pop socks can be a great accessory in your wardrobe if you were trying to create a geek chic look however if worn the wrong way they could be a terrible fashion crime, what do you think?
